A First Time British Passport Application is where the applicant never had a British passport before.

There are many ways and qualifying criteria to qualify for a British passport for Foreign born applicants. Visa information can be provided in the event of not meeting the qualifying criteria.

Applications cannot be submitted in person anymore. Her Majesty’s Passport Office changed the procedure of application and application forms as of 28 October 2013. From now on applications must be sent directly to the UK, the Pretoria Passport Centre closed down for any applications from South Africa.

We send you all the forms to be completed as well as guidelines. We assist “step by step” via email and telephone with completion of the passport application forms.

Types of First Time British Passport Applications:



Applicants born to an UK born Father, your parents were married at the time of your birth

Your passport application can be submitted with immediate effect, you don’t have to register your birth.

Proof of the following will be needed:

  • Original, un-laminated supporting documents and certificates will be required i.e. applicant’s birth and marriage certificates, both parents’ birth and marriage certificates.

Applicants born to an UK born mother before 1 January 1983, your parents were married at the time of your birth

Before you are able to apply for a first time British passport, your birth must be registered (we can assist you with this process).

Proof of the following will be needed:

  • Original, un-laminated supporting documents and certificates will be required i.e. applicant’s birth and marriage certificates, both parents’ birth and marriage certificates.

Applicants born to a UK born mother after 1 January 1983, your parents were married at the time of your birth

Your passport application can be submitted with immediate effect, you don’t have to register your birth.

Proof of the following will be needed:

  • Original, un-laminated supporting documents and certificates will be required i.e. applicant’s birth and marriage certificates, both parents’ birth and marriage certificates.

Applicants born to an UK born father before 1 July 2006 but your parents weren’t married at the time of your birth

Before you are able to apply for a first time British passport, your birth must be registered (we can assist you with this process).

Proof of the following will be needed:

  • Original, un-laminated supporting documents and certificates will be required i.e. applicant’s birth and marriage certificates, both parents’ birth certificates.

Applicants born to an UK born mother or father after 1 July 2006 and your parents weren’t married at the time of your birth

If you were born to an UK born mother or father after 1 July 2006 and your parents weren’t married at the time of your birth, your passport application can be submitted with immediate effect, you don’t have to register your birth.

Proof of the following will be needed:

  • Original, un-laminated supporting documents and certificates will be required i.e. applicant’s birth and marriage certificates, both parents’ birth certificates.
BRITISH BIRTH REGISTRATION with the UKBA*

Before you are able to apply for a first time British passport, your birth must be registered, if you were born to a British born mother before 1 January 1983 or a British born father and your parents were not married at the time of your birth (before 1 July 2006). We assist with the completion of the forms. We arrange with our registered reputable courier to collect from you. Our consultants check all documents to ensure they have all been completed correctly before we submit to the UKBA*. Registration takes between 4-6 months and only then can we proceed with your passport application. If you are successful in your late birth registration application you will need to attend a citizenship ceremony to be presented with your certificate. Ceremonies will normally be held by a local British authority near to where you live. Your passport application can only be submitted after receiving your certificate.
